When you’re a photographer, people always assume you spend your time outside of work creating amazing images of your own children, but the reality couldn’t be further from the truth. After a day of capturing other people’s families and hours spent in front of a computer screen editing and answering emails, picking up a camera to chase my own children is the farthest thing from my mind. So it’s usually during the school holidays when we don’t have to worry about early daycare or school drop-offs and extra curricular activities, special school events or weekend sports – when pyjama days are the norm, not the exception – that I usually try to capture the girls together at least once. Not really doing anything in particular, just them being them. It’s never planned or thought out, and it’s typically during a minute window of time when they’re unusually happy for me to stalk them from behind the lens.
With a 6 year age gap, they’re so very different, but the mutual love and genuine adoration they have for the other, gives me all the feels.
